Songs of 2018 Part 1: 100-51

Yes, it's the end of another year, which means it's the end of another annual music project. Once again this year Jez and I managed to get through more than 1000 albums (including throwbacks and EPs) - he has the exact numbers so watch out for his corresponding posts (or not since he may not actually write anything). Anyway, point is, we listened to a hell of a lot of music this year but at the same time, there's a hell of a lot of music released that we didn't hear at all. So if you read through all these posts and don't see your favourite, it's quite possible that we missed it; it's just as possible that you have bad taste. That's a joke, by the way. I don't pretend that this list is in any way objective or based on any Hegelian proofs of aesthetic merit, it's just personal preference and is here for interest's sake and potentially personal recommendation if you like the sound of something.

As with previous years, I'm starting with a countdown of my favourite 100 songs of the year (100 seems to be the 'cool' number of songs to count down), starting off with the first fifty, presented without comment - because commenting on 100 songs would just be more effort than you're worth, dear reader (Hi, Mother!). Come tomorrow, I will present my 50-21 songs of the year with a small amount of commentary. Then, come Boxing Day, my top 20.
